A strange time of year

If there was ever a good example of "the space in-between", it would be now, during the months of December and January. There's a strange, almost contradictory, feel of winding down and finishing up, yet beginning anew and preparing to wind up again.

And, even deeper, there's a space in-between the space in-between: a time of rest, restoration, renewal and revival — time to take stock, reflect, make changes and adapt.

Dare I say, it's a space and time for growth and decay.

I feel a complex mix of lack of motivation and of reluctance, as well as excitement and hope. I'm questioning all the time, "Does this have to happen now? Can it wait until next year?" By way of a divine answer, yesterday I had to put off a job in Wellington I was meant to do at the end of the week because there was no accommodation available due to a plethora of end-of-year conferences; a frantic rush of finishing up.

Even more divine was the fact that the person organising the work in Wellington was as relieved as I was to put it off until the end of January.

Next year holds a new mix of work as I change my roles with a couple of clients, which will bring more opportunities to work in the spaces of diversity, leadership and social change. And have I mentioned there's a new music video in the pipelines?

For now though, I sit with discipline to do what needs to be done before next year; patience to wait for what is coming up in 2016; and stillness to enjoy the time as it passes from now until then, which will become a new now.
